Ritalin is used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Ritalin is a prescription stimulant and has been labeled by the Food and Drug Administration as a Category C for safety in pregnancy. Category C means that risk cannot be ruled out and that further testing in humans needs to take place through adequate, well-controlled studies. The FDA warns that there is a chance of harm to the fetus if this drug is used during pregnancy. This medication should only be used after consulting your doctor about the risks and benefits. Currently, it is unknown if Ritalin passes through breast milk. Therefore, it is highly advised that you consult your physician before using Ritalin when pregnant or nursing. Updated: 04.15.21
